Answered Prayers {Day 10}
One of the goals of this blog series is to give glory to God for His faithfulness. God is faithful because of Who He is, not because of what He does, but throughout history He has displayed His faithfulness by answering the prayers of His saints. A lot has been written about prayer. I find it to be one of the great mysteries of Christ, but I am convinced that prayer works.
Apart from Jesus' promise that if we pray according to God's will, we'll get what we ask (that's a paraphrase of most respectable commentaries on John 14:12-13), my favorite promise about prayer is found in Ephesians 3:20 (emphasis mine).
Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever.
I read that passage two different ways. First, God is able to do more according to the power at work within us. Second, we do the praying (asking or thinking) according to the power at work within us (which is increasing if we are walking with the Lord), and He is still able to do more! Someone with great faith can ask for or imagine a lot. But God is still able to do far more abundantly. Here are some of the ways God has done far more abundantly what I imagined He could.
Once, God provided my dream job not even a week after losing a job I needed and cared for. That dream job prepared me for prefield in more ways than I can count, especially from a logistical standpoint.
Before prefield started, we prayed for 10 percent support from our sending church; Our generous God has exceeded that number by a lot!
While we were still working hard to make ends meet, Chris started praying that when we finally had children, God would make a way for me to stay home. It amazes me that part of that plan included prefield ministry. He has provided.
Since having Susanna, I have prayed more for wisdom than ever before. God is answering those prayers and giving peace that surpasses understanding about our role as Susanna's parents.
If you'd like to join me in proclaiming God's glory by sharing your answered prayers, leave a comment with your post and share with others by linking back to this one. I'll be doing it on Saturdays, but you can do it any day. Here's the button:
