Comin' Atcha from All Angles
I don't usually use the phrase "we covet your prayers" because it's really Christianese and I don't really know what it means. Coveting [thy neighbor's stuff] is a sin, and it's a word no one uses but Christians, and obviously prayers are good, so it's confusing.
Today, however, I realize there is one way my understanding of the meaning of the phrase actually works, and I don't mind using it because only Christians will care anyway. Digression: As far as I know. If you're a non-Christian, and you're reading, and I just offended you, I am sorry. Keep reading. I should be able to talk myself out of the hole I've dug here.
The journey we are on, both the logistical and the spiritual, to become missionaries, is not easy. The enemy has made it known that he will try to thwart us. God has made it known that He is equipping us, but we must depend on Him for guidance and care and equipping. That's where you come in. We need your prayers! Especially for our marriage, our time, and our studies. Those are the most obvious areas we need prayer right now.
Today I realized that I do covet your prayers. I covet them in the sense that I simply "want your prayers for me." Another way to put it: I am a little jealous for your prayers. My thought process: "if you only have room for one missionary couple in your prayers today, let it be us!"
I am sure you have room to add us to your prayers, and that your prayers for others and other items will not suffer because you've added us. We so appreciate that! I really can't express how overwhelmed I feel when I think of the people who choose to lift us up.
I write all this to explain that our coveting your prayers is what has motivated me to be so involved in social networking, blogging and other ways of keeping people posted on our journey. That way, if you only ever remember to pray for us when you see a reminder from us, you will at least get lot's of reminders.
So, uh...
Shameless, I know.
