Satisfied
I think about satisfaction all the time. It's among one of my favorite English words, not only for its meaning but also for the simple way it rolls off my tongue. And I suppose that thinking about satisfaction all the time isn't that strange - we all have a bent to be comfortable, full, quenched, entertained... satisfied. Sometimes when we use it, it has the same connotations as "pleasant." Like, if a meal was "satisfying," I'm conveying that it was good enough to eat and that it filled my belly. But when I'm satisfied, I need nothing. I've got everything I need. In food, satisfaction is more than a full belly; it's also a happy palate, a quenched craving. When the Bible talks about satisfaction, it's the same: God satisfies the soul in Jeremiah, He speaks of satisfying his wrath in Ezekiel, he satisfies us with long life and in Psalm 90, he is able to
satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days
Confession time: I love Jewel. Judge me if you want, but I like hippy, altruistic singer-songwriters, and she fits the bill perfectly. Plus she has a quirky take on love songs. One of the songs on her latest album, "Sweet and Wild" (two of my favorite words!) is called "Satisfied." Jewel doesn't always get it right. She's got some funny (read: sad) views on the world and God's love. But this song is simple and true (more Jewel lyrics for ya), and I think you'll love its message.
If you love somebody You better let it out Don't hold it back While you're trying to figure it out Don't be timid Don't be afraid to hurt Run toward the flame Run toward the fire Hold on for all your worth Cause the only real pain a heart can ever know Is the sorrow of regret When you don't let your feelings show
So did you say it Did you mean it Did you lay it on the line Did you make it count Did you look 'em in the eye Did they feel it Did you say it in time Did you say it out loud 'Cause if you did, hon Then you lived some That feeling inside That's called satisfied
Busy people walking by Can't help but worry some With so many things to do So little love gets done Empty hearts everywhere Drowning but dying of thirst If you want love It's not that tough Start by giving it first It's so easy to give Baby can't you see Just close your eyes open your heart And do what comes naturally
Well did you say it Did you mean it Did you lay it on the line Did you make it count Did you look 'em in the eye Did they feel it Did you say it in time Did you say it out loud 'Cause if you did, hon Then you lived some That feeling inside That's called satisfied
Horses are built to run The sun is meant to shine above Flowers are made to bloom And then there's us We were born to love
