The Same Light Every Day
Morning time in confinement, the word we're using in Spain. Our quarantine is among the strictest in the world. We notice that we do better on the days the sun is pouring through the window. After breakfast we clear the table for the school work we're keeping up with.
One morning during Spring "break" I made grain-free pancakes. We did plain with jam, blueberry and chocolate chip. It was so much work, but I had time to do it and the cheerful encouragement of my little ones enjoying their breakfast in the sun.
During this season at home, I love that we can keep a Spanish schedule: late breakfast or morning snack, big afternoon lunch, afternoon tea and small, late dinner. It's nice to eat the family meal after school work, while the sun shines at our table. And of course, there's time for a siesta.
After siesta, a movie, screen time, or play time (or all of those), we gather again at the table for what the kids call Poetry Tea Time, leftover from when I homeschooled their preschool years. Tea for me, poetry for those with ears to hear, snacks and sunshine for all.
I am tired of the confinement, I am aching for the outdoors, but I am still in awe that God blesses us with light shining through these windows every day.
We play, read and breathe by the same light, day in and day out.
On the day Jesus rose from the dead, we celebrate with cupcakes and the kids let me take their portraits by that same Light.
